Heavy Propping, Needling & Jacking
During structural work modification of floor areas within existing buildings, the Architect will often ask the Engineer to remove vertical structural elements and replace them with transfer beams and grillages. To allow this, it is necessary to support the service loads of the structure, demolish the unwanted element and transfer the loads onto the replacement structure.
Using heavy duty props with load capacities of up to 1000 kN (100 tonne), in conjunction with fabricated structural steel beams of appropriate size, we are able to erect systems to carry the heaviest of loads. Where necessary, foundations, either piled or pad, can be installed to support the temporary loads. Any special welding or fabrication work can be undertaken by our own engineers to suit the particular situation on site.
Work is undertaken by our own labour, all of whom have been trained in the handling of heavy equipment and working in the most difficult of site environments. They are all experienced in this type of work and bring many years of their varied experience to bear on every job that they work on.

Façade Retention
To keep the feel and character of an area, an increasing number of local authorities now require the look and fabric of existing buildings to be maintained within new development. The interior can be completely re-modelled and adapted to modern day standards but the outside must remain looking as it always has.
Using heavy duty legs with load capacities of up to 1000 kN (100 tonne), erected in towers braced to carry wind and construction loads, we are able to erect façade support systems to restrain the most complex of buildings. Where necessary, foundations, either piled or pad, can be installed to support the temporary loads.
All necessary timber packing and protection to the existing brickwork of stonework is supplied and can be installed either during or before erection of the main façade support. Vertical support to doorways and openings can be included in the façade support and pre-loaded if required, using screw jacks or hydraulic flat jacks. At ground level, protection to allow public access along pavements and roads can be incorporated within the scheme to enable approval by local authorities.

The team allocated to each job will be carefully selected and sized to suit the required rate of progress and will arrive on site with all of the materials necessary to carry out the work with the minimum of supervision by the client.

Using medium duty props with load capacities of up to 200 kN (20 tonne), erected in conjunction with fabricated steel needle beams, we are able to erect needling to support all types of wall from a simple two storey house to a complex office building.
Where necessary, foundations, either concrete or spread timbers, can be installed to support the temporary loads. All necessary timber packing and protection to the existing brickwork of stonework is supplied and can be installed either during or before erection of the needling.
Any holes required in the structure will be cut out and prepared to receive the steel beams and local propping installed as necessary. Any particular requirement for lifting of the new steel beams will be taken care of so that there is no need to worry about manhandling them through the temporary supports.

To minimise the depth of 'cofferdam' piles a high level prop is useful. If the site is small and easily bridged, this is not a significant problem. If the site is large, a heavy duty alternative is required. This could be structural steelwork designed for this job only but using standard components for a short term contract can be much more economical.
Using heavy duty props with load capacities of up to 1000 kN (100 tonne), erected in conjunction with steel soldiers to provide braced struts, we are able to erect propping to support all types of walls. If special end fixings are required, these can be fabricated to suit in our own workshops. Where necessary, foundations can be installed to support struts to carry the weight of props and enhance load carrying capacity.
All necessary timber and steel packing will be installed as a matter of course during the erection process.
Any holes or rebates required in the structure will be cut out and prepared to receive the propping and resin packs installed as necessary. Any particular requirement for working in the excavation will be taken care of so that there is no need to worry about damage being caused when working through the temporary supports.

We undertake the design, fabrication, and erection of structural steel frames up to 500 tonnes.
Our professional team offer a rapid response to requests. We accept work at various phases including; tender enquiries, quotations at pre-contract stage, or provision of additional items urgently required on-site during the erection programme. The team also includes a structural engineer and Health & Safety advisor.
We also accept projects based on either Architect or Engineers drawings or specification and bills of quantities.
